Breakfast is served at 130 bpm
After being jealous of Berlin's famous morning rave Morning Gloryville, Malmö has come up with its own answer for a healthy, drug-free, alcohol-free, weekday morning rave – Frukostklubben AKA The Breakfast Club.
Held every alternate Thursdays from 6 to 10 in the morning, Frukostklubben serves a hearty breakfast for champions on a platter of heavy techno. Don't get confused by the Berlin concept. What we have here in Malmö town is much smaller, cosier, darker, and smokier – exactly the way we like it.
Hidden away above a flight of rickety stairs at the corner of what used to be the city's trailer park, the first thing you'll be greeted by is a thumping wakeup call to your senses. As the dreamy clouds from the smoke machine engulfs you, pulsating strobes and bright smiles make up for the severe lack of sunshine in the depressing Scandinavian winters. It might look like an afterparty for the speed freaks and acid warriors, but the unmistakeable smell of freshly made waffles would quickly convince you otherwise.
Say hello to the students squeezing in a morning workout before their lectures, hug the accountant who's giving it her everything and thrashing her hair around, and of course, don't forget to give your love to the hardworking caregivers, nurses, and psychologists who would soon be on their way to serve our community.
Waffles and coffee on the dance floor
Weaving through the beautiful glistening bodies, you'll find yourself walking down the corridor to a sumptuous breakfast that you've always wanted someone to bring to you at your bedside. Yes, included in your entrance of 40 SEK is a sexy spread of fresh waffles, oatmeal porridge, smoothies, and hot coffee.
You can either cuddle up in one of the couches, bring it to the dark room to experience it all by yourself while having some pretty stranger give you a shoulder rub in a non-creepy way, or bring it to the dance floor and stuff your face while you feel the bass.
Fuck the gym, dancing is healthier
Isn't it weird how even though many of us are stuck in the hamster wheel of the capitalist society, we still spend our free time running on treadmills? Wouldn't it be better to sweat out your morning before work mingling with wonderful souls, experiencing the art of talented musicians, and expressing yourself through motion?
Frukostklubben is a new kid on the block, but if you let it become a new thing in your life, you might find yourself opening up to a life-changing experience. Don't be a hamster, come join The Breakfast Club.
